Well, it has been quite an interesting couple of days. Christmas was awesome (and a belated Merry one to you and yours). My parents bought me a sweet Camelback, it is lime green (my fav) and black. I hope it will inspire me to be more productive with my fundraising so I can get my bike and start using it (for something other than Gasparilla). Note: If you don't know what Gasparilla is, please delve into this festive Bay Area tradition here http://www.gasparillapiratefest.com/.
Then came Urban Meyer's Boxing Day shock and awe campaign, as the ESPN ticker flashed all day yesterday that he was stepping down as the head football coach of my beloved Florida Gators. First I was angry, because I thought he was bailing to take another job, maybe in the NFL...then they said it was for health reasons. I felt guilty for being upset with him, then worried for him as a person. I figured Tim Tebow would show up crying somewhere and people would make fun of him again. I was afraid that we'd cap this season of bizarre drama with an embarrassing loss to Cincinnati on New Year's Day.
Then Urban Meyer un-retired. And I officially didn't know what was going on. But the Buccaneers pulled off a miraculous overtime win over the Saints and my faith was restored in the world. And apparently Urban will be the head coach come kickoff August 2010. What else could possibly happen between now and Friday when this crazy season ends? I can't handle it.
Ok, so finally something relevant to those who will be biking with me this summer: I am going to North Carolina tomorrow! Fayetteville, a little ways off from where we'll be starting...but still, it will be exciting to know that the next time I'm there I'll be riding a bike across it and surviving off the kindness of others. Here's hoping for some snow (it's 65 degrees here).
